If you’re interested in playing an active role in the community, we’re always looking for volunteers.
Reach out to MrAlders0n on the Greater Ottawa Mesh Enthusiasts Discord with what you’d like to help with.
Below are some common roles we have in the community.
Mesh Overseers¶
- Community members who manage a large portion of the city's repeaters and help guide mesh decisions
- Act as high-level mesh administrators: coordinate placements, maintenance, and operational practices
- Help set and enforce technical and operational standards (frequency, power, access, documentation)
- Mentor Tower Tech and Fabrication teams and maintain a register of overseen repeaters and contacts
Knowledge Curators¶
- Maintain and update NCR Mesh Website Content
Tower Tech¶
- For people who like to climb and help install or maintain repeaters
Fabrication Team¶
- For people who want to participate in custom PCB design
Community Support¶
- Welcome new users in Discord
- Be active in Discord: answer questions and help new members get started
- Guide users to the wiki and Ottawa Mesh best practices
- Help new users find the right channels and escalate technical issues to maintainers when needed
Community Outreach¶
- Reach out to building owners, venue managers, and other locals to find rooftops/high spots and permissions.
- Keep a simple one-pager with a short project summary, a few photos, and contact info to share.
- Arrange site visits, coordinate access and timing, and save any written permissions.
- Team up with local groups (radio clubs, neighbours, outdoor groups) to spread the word and recruit helpers.
- Handle public posts and flyers
- Track outreach, permissions, and follow-ups.
